Spring Women’s Luncheon

Our special guest speaker will be Ela Weissberger, who was 11 years old when she was deported in 1942 to the Terezin ghetto in Czechoslovakia. She will share her experiences, especially her role in the 55 performances of the children’s opera Brundibar. The luncheon is chaired by Patti Kenner, Ann Oster, Kathy Gantz, and Stacey Saiontz. The event includes a silent auction during the pre-luncheon reception. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Museum Community Fund, which enables us to provide free or reduced-cost access to school and community groups who are not able to afford Museum admission.

The Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation Dinner on June 3 will honor Agnieszka Holland, director of Academy Award nominated film In Darkness, and Dr. Krystyna Chiger Keren, a survivor of the Lvov Ghetto portrayed in In Darkness. Our special guest speaker was Stella Levi, a survivor of Auschwitz, who was born on the Aegean island of Rhodes. She shared her experiences growing up in its Sephardic community and the lesser- known story of the approximately 1,700 Jews deported in 1944 from Rhodes. She is one of only approximately 152 from this community who survived. The luncheon was co-chaired by Patti Kenner, Ann Oster, and Kathy Gantz. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Museum Community Fund, which enables us to provide free or reduced-cost access to school and community groups who are not able to afford Museum admission.

More than 70 Museum friends attended this benefit performance of this moving new musical, starring Two-time Tony® Award-winner Donna Murphy, directed by Leonard Foglia, and featuring a book & lyrics by the author of the international best seller Beaches, Iris Rainer Dart, and a glorious score by Mike Stoller and Artie Butler. More than $20,000 was raised in support of Museum programs.

Campus Coach graciously provided round-trip luxury bus transportation for a small group of Museum family and friends. Coffee and breakfast treats were served on the ride down, along with brief films and talks by MJH Director Dr. David G. Marwell, Ph.D., Deputy Director Ivy Barsky, and Curator Melissa Martens.
Guests took a VIP Tour of the National Museum of American Jewish History led by exhibition designer Patrick Gallagher (Mr. Gallagher designed the Core Exhibition of the Museum of Jewish Heritage as well as exhibitions at the National Museum of American Jewish History). After lunch, guests took a VIP tour of Paris through the Window: Marc Chagall and His Circle at the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the exhibition’s curator, Michael Taylor.
