The Pension Protection Act of 2006, which was signed on August 17, 2006, makes some noteworthy provisions for charitable giving. The law permits those over age 70½ to donate up to $100,000 per year in retirement plan assets to a charity without paying income tax, while satisfying requirements for minimum annual distributions. These IRA charitable rollovers will only be allowed through 2007. This is a unique opportunity to make a donation to the Museum while saving on income tax. As always, you should consult with a tax specialist to confirm that you are qualified to benefit from this provision. A member of the Museum staff will be pleased to meet with you to explain how this type of gift can work for you. There is no charge for this confidential consultation.
